Dutch shipyard Heesen has announced the launch of its latest 50 metre steel displacement superyacht named Project Aura.

The sub-500GT superyacht, also known as YN19650, hit the water at Heesen’s Oss facility ahead of Christmas on December 17. Project Aura features an automotive-inspired design penned by Clifford Denn paired with a “Scandinavian chic interior” designed by Reymond Langton.

Due for delivery at the end of April, the yacht is described as a true bluewater motor yacht “ideal for extended cruising” by the yard. Key features include a bulbous bow and steel displacement hull designed by Heesen’s in-house naval architects.

The owner’s representative captain Billy Lockhart said: “The launch has always been the most important milestone in a boat’s history, ever since sailors first went to sea. For us, as the new crew of Aura, the pride and excitement we feel watching this new build take that step is no different. We look forward to the boat’s completion and the voyages and experiences we have in store together.”

Elsewhere, the yacht features a Jacuzzi, al fresco dining and beach club aft with fold-out swim platforms. The toys and tenders meanwhile are stored on the foredeck.

“Clean lines and surfaces” are found throughout the interior, which is decorated in colours such as sea green and deep blue, although the exact finish will be up to the discretion of its new owner. Accommodation is for a total of 10 guests in five staterooms, including an owner’s suite forward of the main deck.

Power will come from two MTU 8V4000 M63 engines for a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 3,800 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots.

Project Aura will remain at the shipyard in Oss for commissioning before heading out on sea trials in the North Sea.
